Measurement of thyroglobulin antibodies is useful in the diagnosis and management of a variety of thyroid disorders including Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, Graves’ disease, certain types of goiter, and to monitor patients who have had their thyroid gland removed because of thyroid cancer. The presence of these antibodies can lead to the destruction of the thyroid gland and are more likely to appear after trauma to, or inflammation of, the gland.
