Description:
Creatinine is a waste product from normal muscle use and meat protein in your diet. Healthy kidneys remove creatinine from the blood and then passes it out of your body through urine.
This test is used to determine if your kidneys are functioning normally and to monitor treatment for kidney disease.
High levels could be caused by kidney disease, a blockage in your urinary system, muscle disease, congestive heart failure, diabetes, dehydration, overactive thyroid gland, or shock.
Low levels could be caused by muscle loss, severe liver disease, or not enough protein in your diet
