Description:
Checks for an amino acid called citrulline which is present when you have rheumatoid arthritis (RA). RA attacks your joints and Citrulline is a byproduct of joint damage. In response, your body often makes antibodies against citrulline. These antibodies are called anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide, or anti-CCP antibodies.

This test is positive in most people with rheumatoid arthritis and can even be positive years before rheumatoid arthritis symptoms develop. According to American College of Rheumatology, approximately 95% of patients with a positive CCP will develop RA in the future.
