IL-2 is a protein cytokine produced primarily by T-helper lymphocytes in response to infection. IL-2 signals T cell proliferation and antibody secretion by B cells. IL-2 therapy is approved for treatment of certain types of cancer and is being studied for treatment of other medical conditions.
